Burrill Lake: Dirk Stuber’s Report

Nine Riders met at Albion Park at 9am Saturday. After introductions the ride route and cornerman system was discussed. We rode to Nowra and Troy then led us on a very nice ride on the dirt roads of Yawal and Deans Gap Road.

We picked up Paul at Wandean and rode to Milton. We had lunch at the Bakery and Stanley joined us.

Eleven riders then rode through the State Forests to Nelligen via the Yadboro and the Western Distributor Road. Sections of the roads were badly eroded and there were long patches of deep very fine dust covering wheel ruts. It became obvious to me that splitting into two groups, fast and less fast, would increase safety and everyone’s enjoyment. The rough patches were successfully negotiated and we regrouped at the Kings Highway.

We rode back to the caravan park at Burrill Lake via the River Road, Shallow Crossing and the Sheep Track. Shallow Crossing lived up to its name with only 10 cm of water.
Holiday Haven Caravan Park provided a fire place and free wood and it was not long before roaring fire was established. A full moon and lake views put all in the mode for some fish and chips, a few drinks and some tall yarns and general chat about adventure riding.

Sundays ride was shortened as rain was threatening. We rode the Clyde Ridge Road to the Lookout then Shallow Crossing and Brooman Road to Milton. We regrouped at the Heritage Bakery. Five riders made their farewells and headed home. Six rode Deans Gap Road on the way home. Some received a drenching as they entered Sydney.

From comments and feedback everyone had a good time and enjoyed their visit to the south coast and hinterland.
