Considering the catastrophic weather conditions of the previous couple of months it was looking likely this ride would be cancelled. But the weather God’s looked after us and dampened the fire grounds and brought cooler damp conditions for the ride.
Although the weather was in our favor the forests weren’t with all National Parks closed in the general area making for a cruisy weekend of a few farm roads and back roads.
Anyway four of us met at Mt Victoria for a B&E roll and cuppa and then off to Taralga with a few dirt roads worked in. Arriving at Taralga to meet up with Trevor Hewitt, Chris Hendrie and Mark Worrall from the ACT. An early lunch and we headed for Marulan to meet Gareth Lentle and John Hoyle.
Supplies bought and its off to Stewart’s Crossing for the night. By the way except for a shower up the Blue Mountains to Mt Vic the day remained dry and cool with no dust on the few dirt roads we had access to.
The day trippers left us at Marulan as the rest found a level spot for our tents at the crossing. A short time later Russell Nurse turned up. There was water there but it wasn’t flowing and had a smell to it, not to bad but I don’t think you would swim in it. A good night had by all.
Sunday morning saw Russell head for home with a detour via Braidwood. Trevor and Chris were heading for Tarago, Dalton, Boorowa & Coota for Chris. Gareth, John and Wayne headed via Nerriga to Nowra where I headed up the valley and back to the Blue Mountains as Gareth and the Woonoona rider John headed for there homes.
I won’t comment much on the fire damage as its well documented, but our riding plans may have to be changed and modified over the coming months to allow for closures etc. anyway we’ll push on as planned and wing it as it happens, all part of the adventure.
